Bonnie and Camille Pillow Cover Exchange

1 comment , , Share It:

I am so excited to announce that I will be hosting a Bonnie and Camille Pillow Cover Exchange.
This is a fun way to exchange pillow covers without being late or behind on your mini swaps. You either have a cover ready to go by the deadline and you can participate, or if you don't, just wait until the next round. No stress! Anyone can join at anytime.  Open to international participated too.

HOW IT WORKS

Make a pillow cover in Bonnie and Camille's fabric lines; Bliss and newer. After a small request from yours truly, Camille updated her blog links to her fabric lines on the right side bar. It's a great reference if you are not sure if the fabrics are Bonnie and Camille. NO SOLIDS, with the exception  of the background fabrics for the pillow cover that can be white or Moda black Crossweave. Any whites used must be Moda Bella white 97 or 98, or Kona.

You can make a rectangle* or square shaped pillow. If you are making a rectangle shaped pillow it needs to be a minimum of 12"x16" and a maximum of 14"x28". If you are making a square shaped pillow it needs to be a minimum of 16"x16" and a maximum of 20"x20".
(*Please note: After the first round in October 2016, I will take a poll to see if you all liked the option of having a variety in the size options of rectangle and square. Depending on the feedback, the exchange could change to a 16"x16" ONLY just to simply things. So please hold off on making your next rounds pillow covers until the poll is taken and decision made. Thanks for being open minded.)

Your pillow cover needs to be quilted and finished with either a zipper or envelope style closing.  You can make 1-3 pillow covers for each round but please put a priority on QUALITY and not quantity.

HOLIDAY EXCHANGES

In addition to your everyday (non-holiday themed) pillow cover exchange, we will also have a holiday themed Bonnie and Camille pillow cover exchange!! I love the idea of having a holiday themed exchange but it can really get complicated considering everyones personal preference, religion, culture, or where they live in the world.... So I am just going to limit the holiday themed pillows to a majority rules and have a particular deadline for those holiday themed pillow covers. We will have a Halloween, Christmas, Valentines and 4th of July exchange with specific deadlines before the actual holiday, so we can make sure that we can have it for the full season of enjoyment. If you are making a holiday themed pillow cover you will only exchange with others who have made that same holiday themed cover and the same is true for the everyday pillow cover participants.

CALL / DEADLINE DATES

For the everyday (non-holiday themed) covers:
October 1st, 2016
January 15th, 2017 (pushed back because of the holidays)
April 1st, 2017
July 1st, 2017

Holiday themed pillow cover deadlines:
October 1st, 2016 Halloween* and Christmas
January 15th, 2017 Valentines Day
April 1st, 2017 4th of July
July 1st, 2017 Halloween
*With the release of black fabric in Bonnie and Camille's Handmade fabric line and that fabric line not being available in shops until September 2016, that may be cutting it close to the October 2016 deadline to make a Halloween themed pillow cover but I will leave it open for those who want to participate in that exchange. I personally am excited about having a Halloween pillow made from my favorite fabric designers ;-) If you are short on time, please wait until the July 2017 deadline for the Halloween exchange.

A few days before the deadline, I will post a photo on instagram that says "call for pillow covers",  if you have a cover (or covers) MADE and READY TO SEND, you will then go to my blog. Once you are on my blog you will need to select the link that pertains to you. I will have separate links for the holiday and the everyday (non-holiday themed) pillow covers.  If you have both a holiday and everyday pillow cover to exchange for that round, you will need to do both. There you will fill out a little form and then email me a well lit photo of your finished cover(s). If you have more than one cover to exchange for that round, you will need to send me a separate email for each one.
If the cover(s) meet the requirements, within a couple day or so I will respond back to that email you sent me and give you a name and address to ship that specific cover to, and it is expected that you'll ship your cover(s) within 48 hours. Covers can be sent first class mail and in a ziplock bag to protect it from moisture. You will not be mailing the pillow insert or form. The person who received the pillow cover will provide their own form. This will help with shipping costs. You are not required to give extras either but feel free to if you wish. Since the deadline date is the same for international and domestic participants, there will be a bit of lag time due to postage.
Pillow covers should be clean, with no holes, stains, or smells. Every effort should be made to send high quality, well constructed pillow covers. This is open to beginner - advanced sewists and skill levels may vary. There is no specific pillow cover pattern required, so be mindful of the dimensions and standard pillow forms dimensions that are readily available at the stores. Please be mindful of your pattern choice - super simple covers with very little Bonnie and Camille fabrics may not be eligible to participate. If you have questions if your pattern choice is okay or not, please send me a DM on instagram and I would be more then happy to answer your questions.
I reserve the right to use my discretion concerning participation in the exchange. I want everyone to get pillow covers they love and I will try my best to make that happen.

Please follow the guidelines and if you have questions on anything, please let me know. I really don't want to turn away anyones finished pillow covers because the guidelines were not followed.

I am so excited to do this and I hope to see all of you in the exchange. Check out #bandcpillowcoverexchange on Instagram for more info and to post progress photos

Holding up quilts for pictures

3 comments , , Share It:

Have you ever struggled to hold up your quilts? Or rather, does your husband or kids struggle to hold up your quilts for you? If you answered yes, then look no further.
After I made my Fresh quilt, I knew I wanted to take pictures of it while we were up in the mountains getting our family pictures taken. There was one problem, the quilt was HUGE and I wouldn't be able to hold it up all of the way. We literally had 30 minutes before our family photo shoot and I was racking my brain for ideas and this idea popped in my head. I ran to my basement and found all the supplies I needed.
Take the wooden dowel and place it on the inside of the handle on the spring clamp.

Make sure not to place the wooden dowel too close to the spring or you will not be able to open the clamp.

Take a piece of tape and secure the handle of the spring clamp to the wooden dowel.

Next attach the clamps to the top corners and your quilt and it is all ready to go for the picture taking glory.

It makes a big difference and hopefully your quilt holder will have far less complaining ;-)

I hope that you will find this helpful.
